KUCHING

CITY TOUR

Like all towns and cities in Borneo, the focal point of Kuching and the reason for its existence is the river.  Hiring a sampan to meander slowly up and down the Sarawak River is the best way to get your first impression of Kuching. From the river you will see picturesque Malay villages (kampungs), a golden-domed mosque, a Victorian fort, a whole street of 19th century Chinese shophouses and an imposing wooden-roofed palace, all set against a background of distant mountains.

SATANG ISLAND AND DOLPHIN WATCHING

Nearest to Kuching, Satang comprises of two islands, Besar(big) and Kecil (small). Most diving activities are done around Satang Besar where coral reef fringes two third of the island’s edge and submerged boulders lay on the other. It is a playground for macro lovers.

Satang Islands are located just outside the coastal area of Santubong with muck diving activities happening around Satang Besar.

Variety of corals and marine life can be found on the reef around the island. For the avid underwater photographers, there are plenty of macros of different species to be found here.

But the star has a supporting cast of long-tailed macaque monkeys, usually patrolling the park headquarters, silvered leaf monkeys, monitor lizards and squirrels and flying lemurs that glide from tree to tree.

SEMENGGOH WILDLIFE CENTRE

The Semenggoh Wildlife Centre of Semenggoh Nature Reserve is by far the biggest Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre in Sarawak. Back in 1975, it was established as a sanctuary for Orangutans who are injured, orphaned or being kept captive as illegal pets. This wildlife centre has a thriving population of healthy adolescent and young adult semi-wild Orangutans. They spend most of their time roaming the forest but are trained to get back to the centre during feeding times where they will be able to get a free meal from the caretakers.
